Rawlinson ‘over the moon’ as Spalding United win on the road again

Spalding United’s remarkable run of form continued with a 2-0 derby victory at Peterborough Sports on Monday night.

Goals from Danny Brooks (pen 66) and Luke White (90) secured the Tulips their third away Evo-Stik NPL First Division South success on the spin, following victories over Gresley and Bedworth.

The victory keeps Spalding on-course for a top ten finish ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Carlton Ton (7.45pm) and Saturday’s final home game of the season against Leek Town (3pm).

Boss Chris Rawlinson, speaking the the Tulips’ official Facebook page, said: “I’m over the moon, obviously. To go away to Gresley and get the result we did, then back it up at Bedworth and then come to a Peterborough Sports side that are in great form.

“I thought we were excellent. I think the performance was equal to Bedworth on Saturday – if not a little bit better.

“We’ve got a few knocks, niggles and tiredness in the legs after the run we’ve been on.

“But we’ll dust ourselves down and see what we can come up with side-wise.

“Saturday’s game with Leek is a big one. There are a couple of ex-Spalding players in their ranks and it’d be nice to see a good crowd at the Halley Stewart.”

Once again the Tulips turned in a highly commendable performance to overcome the challenge of a Sports side who were in close proximity in the league standings.

Such was the standard of their play that goalkeeper Michael Duggan, on his 250th appearance for the club, was never seriously tested throughout.

By the interval the Tulips should perhaps, have held a comfortable advantage on the number of scoring opportunities created.

But they had to wait until the 66th minute before breaking the deadlock with a superbly executed penalty by Daniel Brooks after the once again impressive Cenk Acar had been brought down just inside the home area.

The icing on the Tulips’ cake arrived in the third minute of added time from the boot of substitute Luke White following an assist from fellow teenager Scott Floyd.

After the Leek clash, Spalding visit Sheffield FC on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
