TROPHY TREBLE: Holbeach United Sunday pose with their titles after Wednesday's win.

Player/boss Cole salutes ‘Sunday family’ after invicible Tigers complete title treble

Jubilant co-player/boss Tim Cole has paid tribute to his invincible Holbeach United Sunday side after they wrapped up a terrific treble.

Having already won the Lincs Sunday Cup and League Knockout Cup, the Tigers clinched the Spalding and District Sunday League crown last Wednesday with a dominant 21-1 victory over Mulberry at Carter’s Park.

Top scorer Billy Smith smashed six in that win, with Adam Jackson (3), co-player/boss Josh Ford (3), Daz Edey (3), Cole (2), Luke Nicholson, Scott Powley, Jamie Stevens and Macauley Grimwood also netting.

They then wrapped up their season with a 6-0 victory at Pinchbeck United Sunday over the weekend, thanks to four goals from Grimwood and further strikes from Ricky Dickinson and Paul Newcombe – making it a perfect 27 wins from 27 games in all competitions.

That run saw the Sunday Tigers bag 250 goals and concede just 24.

Cole feels the success is down to the team behaving like a “Sunday family” and is already targeting another county crown next season, while also aiming to enter the national Sunday Cup when they are eligible.

He said: “It’s been a fantastic year for us. At the start of the season ‘Fordy’ and I set the goal of winning the Lincs Sunday Cup.

“At no point did we imagine we would have a 100 per cent winning record – to have that is unbelievable and full credit to all the lads that have played a part.

“If you look at the stats, Jon Fairweather has played every single game bar one and the likes of Billy Smith and Adam Jackson have only missed a couple – so it goes to show they don’t just turn up for so called big games, they enjoy it week in, week out. There’s a lot more of the lads who have been involved nearly every week as well.

“They really are a great bunch of lads and we all definitely treat each other as a Sunday family, not just a group that play and go home.

“Another huge thank you needs to go to our sponsors and supporters. We now look forward to celebrating the season with everyone on May 26 at the presentation night.

“Our aims for next season are, of course, to retain the Lincs Cup. But, once we have been running two years, we will look at applying to enter the national Sunday Cup.”
