Name of first £1,000 winner in South Holland recycling reward scheme

The first winner of South Holland District Council’s £1,000 recycling reward scheme has been announced.

Jason Carswell, from West Street, Crowland, scooped the prize after a live draw on Tulip FM.

He was one of 25 winners to have already won £100 in the Green Bag lottery, after correctly presenting his recycling for at least three out of four consecutive weeks.

  1. How do we know the council are making a note of which house is putting out these bags? Many houses have joint drives and all bags are put together, there is no way of knowing which house put out the green bags? Also, what happens when some collectors trot along in front of the refuse lorries and put about 8-10 houses bags in one pile? I have seen this done many times down my road. There are flaws to this system. Presumably we can ask the council for proof they are recording the houses details properly.

Those properties that share a collection point have been given tags to put on their bag(s), with their address on, so that the loaders can tell the driver who has recycled that week. Likewise, the loaders will tell the driver which properties didn’t put a bag out that week.
The drivers have a simple recording system, designed to ensure that the safety of the loaders and public is not compromised. We believe we’ve done our best to make sure that every household that recycles regularly, is given the chance to win.
Even more importantly, we hope that the publicity given to the scheme by The Spalding Voice and Tulip Radio (other newspapers and radio stations are available!), will encourage those households that currently aren’t recycling regularly, or in some cases, not at all, to start doing so.
