From tomorrow (Friday) you’ll have to wear a mask to go shopping under new rules being brought in by the government.
As part of measures to combat COVID-19 you’ll be expected to wear the covering across your face unless you’re under 11 years old, or have a disability or breathing problem.
And South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes has said he’s got his mask ready to use, though he’s not used it as yet as he’s not been anywhere he needs to wear it.
He said: “It was initially thought that masks would not make a difference but clearly the science has moved on.
“The one challenge with COVID-19 is that we’re learning more and more as it progresses.
“With a new viral infection it takes time to appreciate what effects it.
“Now the consensus is that it is beneficial to wear masks.
“Nobody enjoys the idea of wearing a mask and I don’t want shops to be affected by those worried about wearing a mask. But having said that our first duty should be to protect others and those that work in shops so I will be wearing mine when I need to.”
You could be fined up to £100 for being in a shop, bank or picking up food from a takeaway without wearing a mask. Those eating inside do not need to wear a mask.
