Megan shines among excellent Nene Valley Harriers performances

A Nene Valley Harriers contingent travelled to Sheffield English institute of Sport last Saturday for the Notts AAA open meeting and produced some excellent early season performances.

Performances of the day went to Megan Pusey, an unsung hero at the club who frequently stepped in to score valuable points for the team events during the summer.
She ran a personal best 60m of 8.7secs before beating that time again in the second round (8.6secs).
She then ran the 300m over three seconds quicker than last year, with an indoor PB of 46.2secs.

Jasmine Allen also showed the effects of training hard, running an indoor 300m PB, and again a second faster than at the same meeting last year with a time of 45.4.
Jasmine has already qualified for the National Championships for the 60m, 200m and long jump but there is not a 300m contest.
In the long jump she was disappointed with her leap of 4.31 but it was further than the same time last year so it should be positive.

Emily Maltby also jumped 4.91m in the same event.

Emily and Devon Spencer competed in the same triple jump competition taking the indoor opportunity to get some valuable training in.
Emily did a respectable 10.80m whereas Devon was disappointed with 10.27m but accepted that it was not so bad as she had been training heavily recently.
Emily looked very smooth over the 60m hurdles after moving into the hurdles over the summer to fill gaps in the team. She ran a club record and PB of 9.5secs to complete an excellent early outing for the club.

Two Nene Valley Harriers were at that same Sheffield venue on November 8 to compete in the Northern Athletics Open meeting. This was a season opener and earlier than normal.

Nathan Pickering competed in his usual short sprint but lacked the strength to compete a good run fading after leading at the 40m mark.
He finished with a PB time of 7.87secs, which was comfortably below the qualifying standard for the 60m England Athletics Under-15 Championships.

Nathan also ran a good 600m, finishing in 1:48.89min – a respectable time considering he prefers sprints.
Devon Spencer also travelled as part of her ongoing training and recorded a leap of 10.35m in the ladies’ triple jump.
