Ivatt impresses making the step up

A fast, frantic night of stock car and banger racing took centre stage at the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday with over 140 cars scheduled and 15 action packed races and two destruction derbies to wow the crowd.

Spalding’s Lewis Ivatt had the best night amongst the home drivers – picking up a second in a preliminary heat race and a third in the feature final race of the night.

All the more impressive as it was Lewis second meeting in the Adult banger class, after racing in the Junior classes previously, this was arguably his biggest challenge with over 45 fellow competitors racing in the Micro Banger class and racing some of the best and roughest banger drivers from across the country.

In the same class, Crowland-based Harry Cole copped a big shot in one of the heat races which sent his banger airborne off the fence, making a spectacular incident, thankfully he was ok, but side-lined for the rest of the evening with damage.

Dean Moljourd took a big wreck home on Saturday from the Pre-1990 2Litre Rear wheel drive class, the Spalding driver took a big hit in the opening race that severely snapped his banger and unfortunately forced a retirement from the evening unable to repair.

In the 1300 Stock Cars, Holbeach-based Stephen Murphy kicked off his evening in fine style with a superb win in the opening race.

He would get caught up in incidents in his other races, but showing good form he could have had better results otherwise. Spalding’s Dan Booth got on the podium in the main race of the day, coming home in a solid third place; which followed two previous top ten finishes earlier that day and setting him up nicely with good form heading in to their World Final event August 3, where he will start one of the front runners.
