Hussey: We want to do ex-Spalding United lads at Lincoln United a favour

Danny Hussey accepts that Spalding United are now simply aiming to finish as high as they possibly can in Evo-Stik NPL Division One South.

The Tulips have a home double-header to look forward to this week, with play-off chasing Chasetown visiting the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm) and Stocksbridge Park Steels in South Holland on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Spalding have little to play for now with reaching the play-offs no longer a possibility, but assistant boss Hussey is hoping that his side can help out some of their former team-mates by beating Chasetown.

Lincoln United, who have ex-Tulips Jack McGovern, Chris Hall, Mitch Griffiths, Jake Gibson and Gary King on their books, are going head-to-head with the Staffordshire side for the final play-off spot.

“All we can do is try and finish as high as possible,” said the experienced defender. “Top ten would be nice, but we’re just looking to get as many points as we can from the last four games.

“We can certainly have a say in who reaches the play-offs. Hopefully we can do Lincoln a favour, there are lots of top people there.

“It won’t be easy, Chasetown are a very fast side and they beat us soundly last time. The side has changed a lot since then, but we’ve got a good record at home and hopefully we can pick up a few points from the two games ahead.”

Hussey and director of football Bob Don-Duncan will take charge of the team on Saturday, with boss Marcus Ebdon on holiday.

He should return to the dugout for Tuesday’s game.

Striker Stuart Eason (ankle) could be fit to start, but defender Ellis Humble has left the club due to a lack of playing time.

Spalding are looking for a first win since February 27, which equates to a six-game winless streak.
