Hussey happy as Holbeach United raid rivals Pinchbeck for ex-skipper Jackson

Holbeach United Danny Hussey has revealed his delight at luring former captain Nick Jackson back to Carter’s Park after raiding rivals Pinchbeck United for the defender.

Equally adept at centre back or left back, Jackson was skipper under former boss Seb Hayes and was part of the team that lifted the Lincs FA Senior Trophy back in 2018.

Hussey made a seven-day approach for the popular defender last week, with Pinchbeck allowing the two parties to discuss the possible move immediately.

Knights chief Ian Dunn had hoped to hold onto Jackson, who has yet to feature this season due to getting married and then having minor surgery on his elbow.

But he’s inked forms to re-join the Tigers and should be part of the squad for the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division game at basement side Sleaford Town on Saturday (3pm).

“We’ve been interested in Nick for a while,” admitted Hussey. “It was a case of waiting for the right time to make the approach.

“He’s a really well-liked guy and will fit into the dressing room perfectly. He also gives me really good options at left back and centre back and is a great signing for us.

“Nick will buy into the family ethos we have at the club, too. That’s equally important.”

As well as welcoming Jackson into the fold on Saturday, Hussey also hopes to have midfielder Luke Avis available again and Jon Fairweather is closing on full fitness.

He’s still without Michael Frew, Tom Smith and Joe Smith, while striker Ryan Oliver isn’t ready to start at his old club.

Hussey is hoping to see a much-improved showing from his charges at Eslaforde Park – and has warned his players that he’ll not accept anything less than 100 per cent commitment.

“No laziness will be tolerated,” said the Tigers boss. “I need to see more willingness to fight for the cause.

“I know that (Sleaford boss) Jamie Shaw was unhappy with his side last week too, so he’ll be saying the same thing to his players.

“If we don’t work hard, we don’t deserve to win football matches. That’s a trait that I don’t want a team of mine to show and there will be repercussions if I see that from my side again.”
