Holebach United Sunday roar into Lincs Cup final with five-star Rustons romp

Rampant Holbeach United Sunday stormed into the final of the Lincs Sunday Cup with a fantastic 5-0 win at Rustons United.

The Sunday Tigers were given a huge boost when the hosts had a player sent off on five minutes – and duly made them pay when a Jonny Allen effort made it 1-0 at the break.

Co-boss Josh Ford doubled the lead early in the second half, before Jack Smith buried the goal of the game to make it three.

From then on it was plain sailing, with Ford burying his second of the game from the spot, before Rustons saw another player dismissed.

Man-of-the-match Spencer Tinkler rounded off the rout with a late header, as Holbeach booked a final with Grimsby side The Notts FC, who beat Chancel 1-0.

It is expected that the final will be played at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank base, with the date still to be confirmed.

Co-boss Tim Cole admitted that he was proud of his team after seeing them move one step closer to achieving their ultimate goal for the season.

And he also praised the support his side received, something he hopes will be replicated in the final.

Cole said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling to have made the final. ‘Fordy’ and I are very proud of all the lads and everyone involved.

“The amount of people that came to watch us was fantastic – there was easily 70-plus cheering us on.

“The celebrations after showed how much it meant to us all. At the start of the season we always said the Lincs Cup was the one we wanted, so to actually be in the final is awesome.

“Our team spirit really shone through in the game, everyone battled hard. The back four did a brilliant job of keeping them out, meaning Rick Drury only really had one or two saves to make.

“Our wingers were working hard without the ball and the front two of Jonny Allen and Fordy are definitely forming a very dangerous partnership.

“Once again though, fair play to Rustons who really did make us work for it, even with going down to ten men for most of the game and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

“We really appreciate everyone’s help and support, it means a lot. We will be looking to fill two coaches for the final, so anyone interested please get in touch when the date is revealed.”
Holbeach have now won all 16 of their games this season.
