Seven-up Holbeach United made light work of Future Lions UCL Premier Division basement boys Wellingborough Whitworth on Saturday.

The Tigers waltzed to a 7-0 success at The Victoria Mill Ground, with three players helping themselves to braces.

Striker James Tricks opened the scoring early on, before Josh Ford netted number two with a trademark finish from inside the penalty box.

Sub Billy Smith then made it three just before the break, with Will Bird netting number four early in the second period.

Tricks hit a second to take the score to five, before Smith and Ford both netted again to round off the rout late one.

The Tigers remain third after the victory – and are just three points off second-placed Rugby Town.

Holbeach boss Seb Hayes admitted that it was easy for his side against the worst team in the league and refused to get overly carried away with the emphatic nature of the scoreline.

“If I’m being honest, they’re not a very good side,” said Hayes. “So you can’t read too much into the scoreline.

“They actually had a few one-on-one chances which, against a better side, would have seen us punished.

“We were very comfortable in the game, though, so you expect the add defensive lapse when people switch off.

“Overall I have to be happy with seven goals and a clean sheet. We still have work to do, but you can’t ask for much more than that.

“We’ve kept pace with the top two over the past few months, but haven’t been able to do better than them.

“Being third is fine and it is a fair position for us after recovering from a tricky start.”

Holbeach host rivals Pinchbeck United in the last eight of the Lincs FA Senior Trophy on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Tigers: Drury, Clay (Harker), Stevens, Braithwaite, T Smith, Jackson, Avis (B Smith), Tinkler, Bird (Barker), Ford, Tricks.
