Gosberton store has premises licence revoked

An off-licence which showed no sign of addressing concerns over its operation has lost its premises licence.

The action against Gosberton Market in Spalding Road, Gosberton, was taken by South Holland District Council on Wednesday (February 3).

A hearing of the district council’s licensing panel comprising councillors Malcolm Chandler, Anthony Casson and Christine Lawton was told that repeated attempts by the authorities to guide premises licence holder Ali Saied Taha in the right direction had been ignored. He has also admitted having smuggled goods on the premises.

The decision notice read: “There is an extensive history of the premises licence holder failing to comply with the conditions upon the premises licence.

“Despite attempts by the authorities on 22 July 2015 and again on 23 November 2015 to address these issues, the problems were still evident by the 8 January 2016 and the premises licence holder gave no indication that these issues have now been rectified.

“The premises licence holder has accepted police cautions for unauthorised licensable activities and the keeping or allowing goods to be kept on any relevant premises, which have been imported unlawfully or without payment of duty. The licensing objectives expect the licence holder to promote the prevention of crime and disorder which clearly is not the case when the licence holder has accepted his involvement in criminal activity.”

Mr Ali has 21 days to appeal the decision before the revocation comes into force.

Premises licence reviews of Spalding shops Baltic and Winsover, both of Winsover Road, are due to be held next week. They were two of three shops raided in December, when 17,000 contraband cigarettes were seized.

The other shop – Nasza Biedronka in Sheep Market – lost its premises licence on Friday. (January 29)
