Athletes from Nene Valley Harriers claimed eight of the 12 trophies up for grabs at the 25th annual Langtoft 10k race.

The 10k and 3k were both officially started by local coaching legend Russ Prosser, from Nene Valley, who ran a swift 33.11mins when he competed in the first ever Langtoft 10k in 1989.

Bushfield Joggers’ Brian Corleys took the top honours when he crossed the finishing line first in 35.05mins – just 12 seconds ahead of the Harriers’ 17-year-old Jake Richardson, who won the prize for being the top local male finisher.

Bourne Town Harriers’ Jonathan Palmer had the race of his life in third place with an impressive 36.17mins, which was a personal best (PB).

NVH filled two of the top three positions in the ladies’ race, with Ruth Jones and Emily Brand taking second and third place in 41.25mins and 44.00mins respectively behind winning lady Julie Greenwood (Wakefield District).

It was a debut 10k for 16 year-old Brand, from Morton, who also picked up a prize for the first under-25 female athlete, as well as the first local lady gong.

The first Langtoft male prize went to the Harriers’ Paul Gibbs, and clubmate Lance Hemmings picked up the first veteran prize for his time of 36.26mins – a respectable time considering he completed the London marathon only three weeks earlier.

Spalding Triathlon Club’s Aimee Stocker was the fifth lady finisher overall.

Meanwhile, Cameron Everist stormed to victory in the Langtoft 3k, with Nene Valley Harriers’ Megan Ellison taking the female top honours on a windy course.
Some 199 youngsters and fun runners took on the flat but gusty road challenge, which also incorporated inter-school competitions.

  • Nene Valley Harriers’ Ruth Jones (41.29mins) and Emma Penniston (43.38mins) finished in second and third places respectively (ladies’ section) at the Tulips 10km in Spalding.

Fellow Harriers Mike Chapman and Rob Prady filled the fifth and sixth place slots with decent performances of 35.52mins and 36.15mins respectively in the men’s race.

All proceeds from the event were donated to Macmillan Cancer Support (Spalding and Holbeach branch) and Springfields’ Horticultural Charity.
