Charity the big winner as Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s open raises a grand sum

More than £1,500 was raised on Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s Seniors Open Charity Day.

Some 90 golfers from around the region took part in a team four-ball Stableford competition, on what was a glorious day for golf.

Home foursome Dan Newell, Vinny Day, Lee Smith and Neil John took the first prize with 132 points, ahead of John Gamble, Peter Wheeler, Paul Gurney and Nev Barnes (also from Tydd) on 127 points.

However, the halfway house, raffle and £500 donated from the club captain’s charity fund ensured that charity, in the shape of The Papworth Hospital, was the big winner on the day.

Competition organiser Roy Pesterfield thanked all for turning up and gave special thanks to the green keepers for having the course in excellent condition. He also thanked all his helpers, the bar staff and all who helped make a very successful day.
