BIG WIN: Kieran Buffham.

Buffham makes it back-to-back wins at Spalding Cycling Club

Kieran Buffham made it back-to-back time trial victories at Spalding Cycling Club with a strong showing last week.

There was no rain this week, but the breeze was fairly strong and ensured that riders had to cope with a head wind for the two and a half times they rode east down the Delph.

There was also strong cross wind, meaning that a number of the riders yet again decided not to ride their time trial bikes with deep rim front wheels and disc wheels on the rear.

The difference showed in the times, with the faster riders who risked using their TT bikes coming out on top.

That meant that, for the first time in several years, club ten-mile champion Josh Wallis found himself relegated to third spot.

Buffham, as in the previous week, took 1st spot in 23.03mins, with Neil Palmer only 20 seconds down in 23.23mins.

Wallis clocked 24.06mins for third, with Andrew Gurney (26.19mins) fourth and Mark Hills, who chose his road bike, was fifth in 29.26mins.

Other times: Barry Drew 29.57mins; Derek Chamberlain 30.13mins; Brian Johnson 32.03mins; Keith Seaton 32.43mins; Velvet Bowser 33.12mins; Bill Wood 38.06mins; James Davey (guest) 28.57mins.

  • Spalding CC stalwart Chris Bettinson was involved in a major charity ride last week.

He works for Elsoms of Spalding, who have been trading for 175 years.

To celebrate this – and raise money for Lincolnshire Air Ambulance and the Alzheimer’s Society – Bettinson, Chris Pratt and one other employee from Lincoln decided to ride 175 miles in a day.

Several members of Spalding CC opted to go out and help the trio complete their challenge; including Palmer, Gurney, Drew and Andy Bowser.

Bettinson managed to do 175 miles in 9.11.00hrs, averaging just over 17mph in the process.

  • The midweek club riders enjoyed a 50-mile loop to Little Bytham in their latest social gathering.
