The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Something had to give in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) last week as Division One’s unbeaten top two clashed.
Heavyweights Bladerunners and South Holland clashed having both won their first three –and it was the Blades who emerged victorious 3-2.
As befits a top-of-the-table clash, the result was in doubt right to the final end, but Blades held on for the points. Tomascz Dobrzyn managed a double, though it was a close run thing, then did his bit in the doubles.
Richard Hammond and John Gilbert scored one each for the losers.
Meanwhile, One from the Past lost 3-2 against Haz Beans with Tony Cooper and Colin Vertigan picking up one each and the doubles – meaning Dave Moore’s double was not enough.
They now share third spot with JDM who took on bottom team JAG and emerged 4-1 victors.
JAG’s pair put up a spirited performance, both in the singles and especially the doubles, where they came from behind to win.
A third 3-2 result saw Outsiders edge out nearest rivals Defenders and move level with Beans. Radek Blaziek maintained his 100 per cent record, but the doubles were crucial.
In Division Two there are still three unbeaten teams. Hope for the Best top the table with a perfect record, Mine’s a Pint being the latest sufferers.
Having said that, they did not have everything their own way, having to come from behind in one.
Castle Sports are now three back, having dropped a point in their win over Insidious. Guntars Briedes continues to win, but Gary Simpson picked up Insidious’ first point of the season.
Practice makes Perfect move up to third with another win, 4-1 over Saunter Together. Garry Wilkinson maintained his unbeaten run, while Jon Brady added to his wins for the losers.
A Win for a Curry moved ahead of Casey’s Pingers with a 3-2 win, though Mick Nurse did his best to spoil things.
However Phil Knowles’ double, along with the doubles, was enough.
