Spalding 2nd (105) beat Heckington (75) by 30 runs

An incredible bowling display steered Spalding Town 2nd to a fifth successive South Lincs and Border League Division One win on Saturday.

Having been put into bat, visitors Town started pretty well with the watchful Mike Kearns (26) and Jim Clarke (10) reaching 34 before both eventually departed.

Spalding move on to 63-2 off 18 overs with danger-man Ansar Hussain (5) and Simon Juckes (18) looking set to fire them to a big score.

However, Damon Tunnicliffe (4-25) set about turning the game on its head and reduced Town to 84-6 before captain Steve Norris (8) and Nohman Ahmad (8) helped get Town to 105.

Spalding needed to start well with the ball – and Tom Dale (1-12) and Ahmad (2-14) duly delivered, removing danger-man Chris Morley (6), Dom Kew (1) and Sam Elliott (0) all going cheaply.

Jamie Juckes (4-16) and the ever consistent Sanj Tott (3-25) then went through the middle and lower order to steam-roll Heckington for just 75, with only Tunnicliffe (24) offering any sort of resistance.

Town skipper Norris said: “It was a far cry from the home match where there were 600 runs scored but an excellent match.

“Both teams played some hard cricket. 105 on that wicket was worth double that at home and the lads bowled with great consistency to see us to our fifth victory in a row.

“We certainly are always looking to improve and won’t be resting on our laurels. We have a massive game next week at Friskney – who are always dangerous at home.”
