Wonderful wins on the road for Spalding United and Holbeach United

Spalding United and Holbeach United both bounced back from midweek losses as they earned impressive away wins on Saturday.

The Tulips were 3-0 winners at Leek Town in Evo-Stik League First Division South, while the Tigers won 2-1 at Kirby Muxloe to progress in the ChromaSport UCL Knockout Cup.

Starting with Spalding, goals from Jake Newman (14), Paul Walker (57) and Josh Moreman (71) were enough to elevate them into sixth place in the table.

Again under the caretaker charge of Marcus Ebdon, who has yet to be confirmed as boss, the Tulips have banished their poor form in impressive style.

Holbeach, meanwhile, had two Jake Clitheroe goals to thank for one of their most impressive results of the season to date.

Hosts Muxloe were third in the UCL Premier Division table ahead of kick-off, but Clitheroe’s goals on 27 and 52 minutes were enough to secure a quarter final place.

The hosts levelled on 35 minutes, but Darren Jarvis’ side hit back to set-up a last eight tie with either Long Bucky/Northampton Sileby Rangers or Boston Town/Potton United.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox made it 11 wins from 11 ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division games with a 5-1 victory at Riverside.

Third-placed Holbeach United Reserves lost ground in the race for the title, though, as they drew 2-2 with Ketton at Carter’s Park.

There was also some welcome cheer for struggling Crowland Town, who beat Deeping Rangers Reserves 2-1 at Snowden Field.

In Division One, Sutton Bridge United thumped visitors Langtoft Reserves 8-1, while Spalding United Reserves went down 3-2 at home to Wittering.

Long Sutton Athletic collected a point as they drew 2-2 at home to Wisbech Town Reserves.
