New technology is set to make winter road gritting more effective and efficient.
The new county-wide system is able to monitor the temperature of individual roads, meaning gritting can be more targeted to where it is needed.
Preparations are already under way for the winter, with Lincolnshire’s fleet of 43 gritters venturing out from their depots on a test run last weekend.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I am really excited about the gritting programme this year as we have a more efficient and cost-effective service and we can still treat nearly 2,000 miles of our county’s road at once if we need to.
“We expect to use less salt this winter as a result of the new technology.
“Of course if we are in any doubt roads will be gritted to make sure they are safe, but it’s great to have this flexibility.”
lLorry drivers are being invited to have a go at something different and apply to become a gritter driver for the coming winter.
Jobs are on zero-hours contracts and seasonal from October to April.
