The dedicated work of South Holland District Council staff who rescue stray dogs has been recognised with a prestigious award.
The council has won a Bronze Footprint award in the RSPCA Community Animal Welfare Footprints scheme.
The accolade is for the council’s stray dog service as a whole and reflects levels of policy and procedure, kennelling arrangements, relief cover, re-homing, microchipping and education, including information provided via the council’s website and Facebook page, as well as care and welfare.
The certificate states that the council “has shown sufficient evidence of policies and procedures with regard to stray dogs to achieve a Bronze Footprint award for 2014”.
A council spokesperson said: “This has taken a lot of hard work from our Environmental Health team which runs the service and from those involved in bringing the service in-house.”
Coun Malcolm Chandler, portfolio holder for environmental health, said: “This is the first time that we’ve applied for a Footprints Award and it reflects the hard work and dedication of the staff in environmental health.
“The service has gone from strength to strength since we brought the function back in-house last year and this award recognises this.
“We want to continue to improve, especially around reuniting lost dogs with their owners quickly and effectively and to continue providing high standards of care and welfare, working closely with our kennelling partners.”
