South Holland District Council is to purchase more than 5,000 bins to extend its Garden Waste Collection Scheme.
Three full times jobs for a supervisor, HGV driver and loader are also to be created as part of the £29,000 spend.
Coun Roger Gambba-Jones, the council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “The scheme is rapidly approaching maximum capacity of 10,000 residents and we’re now seeking to achieve a further round which will bring us up to another 5,000 residents.
“We’ll re-organise the current scheme to achieve maximum efficiency of the existing scheme and add further residents to it.
“While it won’t reach every single resident because some of them are very remote we’re seeking to reach as many as possible that wish to take advantage of it.”
Coun Gambba-Jones was asked about people who still use purple sacks.
“If they’ve paid for something we’ve made sure they’ve gained the benefit until they’ve exhausted their supply. We’re encouraging people to take advantage of the service.
“It addresses the concern we’re putting garden waste into the residual scheme which is not a good idea at this stage where we’re adopting a climate plan across three councils. People are probably paying more in purple sacks than if they took a bin which are far more convenient.”
