The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Moulton Harrox climbed off the bottom of the South Lincs and Border Premier Division table with an emphatic 124-run win over Woodhall Spa 2nd on Saturday.
A superb unbeaten 86 from Josh Newton inspired Moulton to 235-4 batting first at Broad Lane, before Jack Barnett’s 4-26 helped skittle Spa out for 111 in reply.
That was good enough for Harrox to claim a maximum points haul of 20, which allowed them to leapfrog Boston 2nd in the standings.
After winning the toss, the hosts batted superbly on a day when rain wreaked havoc with fixtures county-wide.
Matthew Barnett (42) and Jack Barnett (43) opened superbly, with both eventually falling in the exact same way as Matt Haslam (3-59) had them caught by Gareth Grant.
Newton had no such troubles, racking up 86 and enjoying partnerships with Matt Rose (36) and Chris Beale (20) on the way.
Time was against the number three, though, as Harrox completed their 45 overs with Newton 14 shy of a century.
Spa lost two wickets early in their reply, with Henry Lavery (1-22) bagging Simon Behan (3) and running out Grant (2).
William Wright (24), Matthew Ashford (30) and Kieran Richadson (28) did score soundly for the away side. But the rest went cheaply as three fell to Lee Eyett (3-33), while Stephen Coles took no wickets, his eight overs went for just 20 runs.
In the end, a run out by Rose wrapped up the innings in the 34th over and Harrox toasted a second success of the season so far.
It was the only other Saturday game with a South Holland interest to reach a conclusion, with the Division One derby between Spalding Town 2nd and Moulton Harrox 2nd abandoned.
Brandon Andrews had hit 48 as Town were bowled out for 158 in 37.4 overs, with Harry Lovell and Curtis Todd claiming three wickets each.
But only 6.4 overs of Moulton’s reply were possible before the rain came at Seas End Hall.
In the end, Moulton took 13 points and Spalding 11.
