Young Dons pegged back by Crowland Town in six-goal thriller

A last-gasp goal ensured that Young Dons under-12s had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Crowland Town under-12s.

The second meeting between the two sides this season in Division Two of the Peterborough and District Junior Alliance Charter Standard League was a real thriller, but Dons were left disappointed with a share of the spoils.

The Donington side went ahead from a corner in the final minute of the first half as Braidon Coupland’s delivery allowed defender Kieran Smith to tap home.

Crowland set the pace in the early stages of the second half and levelled after a fine move down the right-hand side.

The response from the Dons was immediate, with a free kick from Smith delivered to forward Arron Pike – who chipped the ball over a fast approaching Crowland keeper to find the net and put the hosts 2-1 up.

With a quarter of the game left, two Crowland corners were pushed out, allowing Coupland and Luis Cook to place the ball in from the wings with precision, but to no avail for the Dons.

Crowland then hit back to level again following another great move down the right flank.

With only three minutes to go Don’s Smith stunned all when he drove his free kick from near the halfway line in to the top right of visitors’ net to make it 3-2.

It would have been a fitting winner, but Crowland bagged an instant leveller.

  • Holbeach United under-15s and Glinton under-15s drew 1-1 as they failed to crank up the pressure on leading duo PNS and Deeping Rangers.

Glinton enjoyed some early dominance, which paid off when a defensive error from Holbeach handed Oliver Foster an open goal to score.

The Tigers then enjoyed a very lucky break when Foster smashed what should have been his second goal into the top corner.

Holbeach played on as Glinton celebrated – and the referee didn’t award the goal.

The Tigers came out with more purpose in the second half and had an early chance when Harry Collishaw’s snap shot was saved.

However, they soon levelled when sub Luke Cutts came on from the bench with immediate Impact to score.

  • Spalding United Orange under-16s picked up a fine 3-1 win over Wittering Harriers under-16s.

Jack Semmence opened the scoring direct from a free kick after 16 minutes, before Dan Bright made it 2-0 to Orange from a penalty six minutes later.

Aidan Armstrong grabbed number three for Spalding with a glorious goal from outside the area, rendering Wittering’s goal early in the second period mere consolation.
