Warning over fake TV Licencing scam

A warning has been issued over scammers posing as people chasing up TV Licence payments.

An alert has gone out over Lincolnshire Police’s Neighbourhood Watch services after an increase in reports of emails that wrongly state the recipient needs to renew their licence or their direct debit has faile.

“We have seen an increase in the reports of fake TV Licensing emails.  These emails may claim that you need to renew your licence, or that your direct debit has failed.

“These are phishing emails which contain links to genuine-looking websites that are designed to steal personal and financial information.  You will be asked to enter your personal details, and update you banking details.

“Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it’s a scam. Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text.

“If you have received such an email, you can report it to Action Fraud.

“If you believe you have entered your personal details after receiving an email like this, please also contact your bank to safeguard your funds.”
