Visitors enjoy two Holbeach Christmas events for the (zero) price of one

Visitors to Holbeach on Sunday were delighted to be able to enjoy two Christmas events and have praised organisers’ efforts.

St Nicholas Fayre – held on both days over the weekend – was based around All Saints’ Church and the separate Holbeach Hub Christmas Celebration took place in Boston Road South.

St Nicholas Fayre was so successful that after donations to LIVES, Holbeach air cadets (who helped with refreshments) and Holbeach Town Band (which performed), it still expects to also present at least £1,500 to the church.

It’s estimated that a record 2,000 people visited the fayre over the two days. A big variety of stalls were in the church and a marquee, and entertainment included opera singer Helen Verney and online station Linx Radio. Father Christmas was a popular attraction too.

Organising committee chairman Jane Francis said: “It was absolutely buzzing. By 11am on both days you couldn’t move in there.
“It was a brilliant community effort – it’s not a church event.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved and to our sponsors who come back year after year.”

Meanwhile, Kay Piccaver, who helped organise the Holbeach Hub event with Tracey Carter, says stallholders and entertainers all had a great day.

About £700 was raised, to be split between Lincs and Notts Air ambulance and Holbeach Youth Centre.

“I just felt it was a really good community event, which worked well with St Nicholas Fayre, and it was just like the kind of event we remember as kids,” said Kay. “There was a great mix of people of all ages and it brought a tear to my eye to see how well supported it was.”

Tracey and Kay pulled the event together after a street parade and market by town fundraiser Les Ward failed to get local authority clearance in time.
