TOUGH TEST: Holbeach United Sunday.

Toughest test yet for Holbeach United Sunday against high-flying Bradley Rovers

Co-boss Tim Cole admits that Holbeach United Sunday’s Lincs Sunday Cup bid faces a real test this weekend.

The Tigers, who have already beaten Baston (4-1) and Fleet UC (20-0) in the competition, welcome Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Sunday League high-flyers Bradley Rovers to town on Sunday (10.30am).

It is hoped that the third round clash will take place at Carter’s Park, but there’s a chance it could be next door at University Academy Holbeach.

Joint chief Cole admits that he and fellow player/boss Josh Ford – who is injured – don’t know a lot about Bradley, who are second in their league.

But he feels that his Holbeach side can beat anybody on their day.

Cole said: “It’s a bit of unknown territory for us – but we believe it will definitely be our biggest test yet and need to put out our strongest squad available.

“Playing Baston in the first round was tough, but after playing them previously for Pinchbeck Sunday it made it easier.

“Bradley are doing very well in their league, so we are going to have to be at our very best. The Grimsby league is a very tough league – so that says it all.

“As people will have seen from the last round, we are taking this competition very seriously and want to go all the way. Hopefully we will have a good crowd there to cheers us on and enjoy a pint or two after.

“We are lucky to have some fantastic characters and players in our squad, all of whom play week in week out and really do enjoy being part of the Sunday family.

“The likes of Adam Jackson, Jon Fairweather, Billy Smith, Ricky Drury, Jamie Stevens and Luke Wilson to name but a few.

“It’s also brilliant to see Jack Smith back playing with a smile on his face.

“He’s a handful for anyone and really can score from anywhere on the pitch.”

“Going into the game not knowing much about our opposition isn’t ideal

“However, Josh and I are sure we have enough quality in our team to compete with the very best.”

Holbeach warmed up for the game by beating nearest Spalding Sunday League rivals Sutton Bridge Sunday 7-2 last weekend. Jack Smith (3), Fairweather, Gary Piper, Scott Powley and Spencer Tinkler got the goals.
