Top Lockie treble fires Spalding United Reserves back into form

Johnny Lockie hit a hat-trick as Spalding United Reserves bounced back from back-to-back defeats to thump ICA Sports Reserves 7-0 on Saturday.

From the off in the ChromaSport PDLF Division One clash, Spalding pressed and showing a bigger appetite than in their two previous outings and were immediately in front.

The impressive Josh McGuire took on two down the right before crossing to the far post where his ball was met by Robbie Relf, whose run from deep was timed perfectly to fire the ball low in the bottom corner on the half volley.

The Tulips then seized control and the only surprise in the remainder of the half was that, despite hitting the woodwork twice, they only added to the scoreline once. That goal came from Lockie, who neatly tucked in a rebound to grab his first.

In the second half, the hosts made their possession count to the stat that really matters.

Lockie’s electric pace saw him race on to a through ball before firing his effort into the corner following an excellent passage of keep ball.

He then grabbed his Sir Halley hat-trick before the hour as again the youngster raced onto a through ball before, this time, lofting his effort over the onrushing keeper. Matthew Rose and Adam

Braybrook combined excellently in the build-up.

Skipper Dave Endersbee will try and claim the fifth goal. He rose the tallest at the far post from a corner and watched his header be deflected over the line by a defender.

Ash Wilson then stepped off the bench to beat two men before firing in the sixth from 25 yards, before Jack Chilvers finished off proceedings with a thumping header from Relf’s cross with less than ten minutes to go.

The win moves Kev Nottingham’s side up to fourth, nine points off leaders Stamford Lions.
