In-form Pinchbeck United made it four games unbeaten in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North after picking up a fine 2-2 draw at title hopefuls Heather St John’s on Saturday.

The Knights twice led at St John’s Park as Warren Hebblethwaite (3) gave them an early lead, only for Sam Ellis (6) to level almost immediately.

Lewis Thorogood’s side went back into the lead through Jordan Neil (36), but St John’s once again replied through Ellis 60 seconds later.

No goals followed in the second half, but keeper Alex Smith made a crucial penalty save 20 minutes from time to earn Pinchbeck a point against a side that went top of the table thanks to the draw.

Pinchbeck, who handed a start to Joe Melson after injury, are now up to ninth in the table.

Thorogood said: “That was a fantastic result for us, which I’m sure some would say was unexpected.

“The lads showed strong character on the day and really worked hard for each other to get the point.

“For us to be four unbeaten and have taken eight points from our last 12 available is really good.

“But it’s fantastic for us to go there and get a result against them, given the superb football they produced on the day.

“Every single one of our players should be proud and I’m delighted with the progress we’re continuing to make here.

“Overall, a very good day for the club again.”

Knights: Smith, Stevens, Gagyi (Holland 80), Worthington, Fixter, Spafford, Peasgood, Melson, Hebblethwaite, Havard (Baldock-Smith 31, Knight 46), Neil.

Attendance: 54.
