Thorogood feels Pinchbeck United are close to having a settled side ahead of Boston Town clash

Lewis Thorogood reckons that Pinchbeck United are just one signing away from having a side ready to climb the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North table.

Having snapped up Holbeach United skipper Nick Jackson and Boston Town’s Patrik Kacirek last week, the Knights boss now has his sights set on a striker.

Thorogood’s sole goal is to avoid relegation this season and to build up Pinchbeck’s reputation as a credible side at step five of the non-league ladder.

And he feels adding a goal-getter to his squad will go a long way to propelling them up from a lowly 16th place in the 18-team division.

“The squad we have here is still learning and still growing,” said Thorogood. “We’re developing a way of playing and it’s important we don’t deviate from that path.

“The aim, after lots of upheaval, is to have a settled side – which will be another step forward for us as a club.

“I feel we’ve got nine or ten places sorted, so we’re perhaps a goalscorer away from being very happy. It’d be silly of me not to be looking for one.

“But it has to be the right person.

“It’s hard to attract players when you’re struggling at the bottom. You often have people on social media talking the club down, but we just have to shrug that off and stay focused.

“I’m confident that we’ll start turning good performances into results soon, but we need to add goals to our game to help achieve that.

“We’re improving on and off the pitch and the aim is to keep that going.”

Next up for Pinchbeck is a tough derby against high-flying Boston Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday (3pm).

The Poachers are Lincolnshire’s best performers at step five of the non-league ladder this season and sit fifth under Gary Edgley.

Thorogood is full of respect for the Poachers and is expecting a tough game.

He added: “Boston are having a great season and they’ve enjoyed great results against the sides at the top end of the table.

“They’ve done very well and I know it’ll be a tough game. It’s a derby for both sides and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Pinchbeck have no new major injury concerns but doubts remain over the fitness of Harry Peasgood, who was forced off against Loughborough Students last Wednesday.
