Terrific Tracy edges to Classic Cup crown at Spalding Golf Club

Tracy Siddle claimed a narrow victory in Spalding Golf Club’s Classic Cup competition.

There was a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard in the ladies’ section event, which was held in conjunction with the July Medal.

On a day when 38 members took to the Surfleet course, Siddle was the winner on countback with a net 74.

Jackie Bailey Scott and Mo Wallace (also 74) were second and third respectively.

  • A team from Sleaford GC travelled to Spalding for a closely-contested league match on Friday.

With three of the four pairs taking it to the 18th hole, Spalding were unlucky to lose 2.5-1.5.

Anita Cross and Jackie Bailey Scott lost 2 down, Tracy Siddle and Ruth Atkins halved, Sue Dewar and Jacqui Walton won 7&6 and Lizzie Cooke and Olive Gooderson lost 1 down.

  • Spalding’s ladies were on winning form as they travelled to Peterborough Milton for a friendly clash.

Wins from Paula Brown and Maureen Orwell (6&5) and Olive Gooderson and Eileen Bridge (5&4), plus halves from Margaret Barkway and Jean Wilkinson and Ingrid

King and Jenny Wilson, got the job done. Gill Dewhurst and Sally West lost 2 down, but Spalding still won 3-2.

  • Last Monday saw the annual playing of the senior ladies’ competition.

The 13-hole Stableford competition for those ladies over 70 years of age attracted 12 entries.

The winner was Anita Cross, with 25 points, ahead of Elizabeth Holbrook (24pts) and Jenny Wilson (24pts) in second and third respectively.

  • A team from South Kyme arrived at Spalding for a league match against Spalding’s ‘B’ team.

Spalding won 2.5-1.5, with wins coming from Sarah Gibson and Anita Cross (2&1) and Jackie Bailey Scott and Tracy Siddle (1up). Ruth Atkins and Sue Dewar halved, while Lizzie Cooke and Sue Matthews lost 2&1.

  • On June 26 Spalding’s ladies played for the Measures Vase in very tough conditions where the competition scratch went out to 77.

This was a Stableford competition with a draw for partners and attracted a field of 32. The clear winner was Kay Green (41 points), with Sally West (32 points) and

Elizabeth Holbrook (31 points) second and third respectively.

  • Spalding lost a friendly clash with Blankney 2.5-1.5 at the Surfleet course. The points came from Gill Dewhurst and Carole Holland (won 6&5) and Beryl Clay and Jane Darley (halved).
  • Spalding ladies’ B team slipped to a 3-1 league loss at Woodhall Spa, with only Jacqui Walton and Lizzie Cooke (2up) on winning form.
  • Spalding romped to a 4-0 friendly win over hosts Seacroft as the teams of Beryl Clay and Kay Green (2up), Olive Gooderson and Maureen Orwell (3&2), Maureen Norman and Beryl Skinner (6&5) and Ingrid King and Jenny Wilson (2up) all won.
