Teachers take on a marathon test

Two Spalding teachers are running the London Marathon for their next test and their pupils are joining in with their training.

Frances Crampton and Haidee Paul of St John’s Primary School will take on the 26.2 miles in October.

But they’ve already started their training and everyone at the school is set to get involved as part of its sports week.

During the week the children will complete their own mini marathon challenge, have the opportunity to buy refreshments from the tuck shop on their designated sports day and join in non-uniform (sportswear) day on Friday July 2 where a small donation is requested

Frances is looking to raise money for Scope in memory of her cousin Sophie Kendrick who died aged 13 after living with cerebral palsy.

Haidee is raising money for Marie Curie as a thank you for the support they gave her grandad.

Frances was supposed to do it last year but then injured her knee before its cancellation.

Now she’s persuaded Haidee to join her and the pair have already begun training for the event.

“We wanted to get the children involved.

“Last year they all came out and clapped us while we were training.

“This year we thought we’d help them get involved through what would normally be their sports day.

“This year it’s going to be a sports week with the different bubbles all having their own days but they’re going to be running legs of their own challenge which is great to see.”

Haidee said of raising money for Marie Curie: “The care they offered grandad and the support they gave us as his family was truly touching and I want to give a little something back to say thank you and to help them continue the amazing work they do.”
