In-form Pinchbeck United under-15s registered their third win on the spin as they saw off Ketton under-15s 2-1 in a close contest.
Having lost 4-1 to Ketton just a month ago, Pinchbeck knew they’d be in for a tough test.
The teams were equally matched from the off and the game started with end-to-end attacks and hard-fought midfield battles.
Pinchbeck’s first big chance saw Ben Mansour get through to be one-on-one with the keeper, only to roll his shot past the far post.
However, he didn’t need asking twice and it was Mansour who broke the deadlock with a fine right-foot finish soon afterwards.
The game tempo remained high and chances were missed at both end until a cross from the right ended in a Ketton equaliser just before half time.
Pinchbeck pushed for a winner after the break, with left winger Alfie Fox creating some fine individual chances and Jon Manton making some fine solo runs down the Pinchbeck right.
The winner came from a mistimed defensive header, which Dan Taylor calmly lifted over the Ketton keeper’s head and into an open goal.
- Spalding United under-16 Orange climbed to the top of the table with a 6-1 win at Whittlesey Athletic.
Spalding had chances in the first half but Whittlesey defended well to stop the Oranges breaking through before Dan Gildon struck bang on half time.
Spalding continued to push hard in the second half and were rewarded with two goals from Jack Semmence and another from Aiden Armstrong.
Although Whittlesey never really threatened the Spalding keeper, they did break through the defence to spoil the clean sheet and make it 4-1.
However, Spalding scored two more goals through Dan Liquorish and Gildon to make it 6-1 at the final whistle and five wins from as many games.
