The Voice of Spalding and South Holland
Step back in time to the era of big bands, World War Two, ration books and The Home Front at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens this weekend.
The historic Spalding venue is hosting a 1940s Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Jointly organised by South Holland District Council and the Spalding Memorial Parade, this nostalgic annual event has previously attracted over 5,000 visitors and another big turnout is expected.
Coun Gary Taylor, portfolio holder for community, said: “The 1940s Weekend always proves popular and attracts people of all ages from across the district.
“Last year’s event was particularly successful with more than 5,000 visitors over the two days, which was a record.
“I’m sure this year’s event will once again provide two days of fun-filled activities and also give people a chance to remember those who fought in the war.”
The event will feature memorabilia displays, re-enactors, demonstrations, vintage stalls, period vehicles, live music and dancing and spectacular BBMF fly-pasts on both days (weather permitting).
Visitors are invited to get into the 40s spirit and dress up for the occasion.
On the Sunday, the event will culminate in the annual VJ Day parade, paying tribute to those who have served their country, from 2.30pm in The Peace Gardens.

In addition, the South Holland Centre and St Mary and St Nicolas Church in Spalding will also be taking part.
The South Holland Centre will be showing two classic wartime films – tomorrow (Friday) at 7.30pm there will be a screening of This Happy Breed (1944) (Cert U).
Cover Girl (1944) (Cert U) starring Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly will be shown on Saturday at 6.30pm.

On Sunday, St Mary and St. Nicolas Church will be hosting a String of Pearls 1940s concert and singalong, with a wartime tea.
Starting at 4pm this nostalgic event will be a fantastic way to end the weekend.
Entry is free, but donations are welcome.
