Spalding Town target return to winning ways

Rob Ambrose has challenged his Spalding Town side to get back on winning form against struggling Skegness on Saturday.

Town have failed to get winning results in each of their last two league games against Sleaford and Bourne, leaving them sixth in the early standings.

Last weekend’s home tussle with high-flying Woodhall Spa was cancelled after heavy rain, leaving Town raring to go against second-from-bottom Skeg at Spalding Grammar School (noon).

Skipper Ambrose has a full squad to choose from with Chris Dring back – and he wants his side to go all-out for maximum points.

He said: “Having started the season so well, I don’t want us to fall into a lull. Skegness are a good side, don’t get me wrong.

“But it’s a game we can target for a winning result.

“Our next four games are winnable ones and we need to get ourselves into the position where we can get points on the board.”

Spalding come into the game on a bit of a low, after losing their Winkworth Cup semi-final against an under-strength Woodhall Spa on Monday.

Jack Barratt took 4-20 as Spalding limited their opponents to 147-8 in the Twenty/20 event at Sleaford.

Openers Warren Nel (55) and Tim Norris (25) then guided them to 62-0, but they collapsed to 124 all out. Spa went on to beat Bracebridge in the final.

Ambrose added: “It was tough to take. We were all left a bit disappointed really.

“We limited them to a gettable score, but faltered badly. We had the beating of them – so to see them go on and win it was hard to watch if I’m honest.”
