Spalding launch of Men’s Shed South Holland social group

Individuals are being invited to get involved in a new project designed to create a community shed where they can get together, socialise and share skills.

The new Men’s Shed South Holland project seeks to create a shared space to work on individual or group projects in a friendly environment.

Heidi Haxeltine, of Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service, has been supporting the launch of the project.

She said: “The idea is to create a really relaxed, informal environment where men can be side-by-side perhaps tinkering on individual or community practical projects.
“It’s a kind of social group with a difference that will hopefully just be a bigger version of your usual garden shed where men can do whatever they’d be up to out there, but have the benefit of each other’s company at the same time.
“It’s a place to have a laugh, socialise, pursue practical interests and stay active.”

Men’s Sheds have been successfully created in many other areas.
The UK Men’s Shed Association website says: “They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. A place of leisure where men come together to work.”

A number of community groups wanted to see the creation of a Men’s Shed in South Holland and they have been working together to make it happen. They include Chain Bridge Forge, Tonic Health and Ivo Day Centre.
A launch event is being held at 10.30am on Wednesday (February 22) at Tonic Health, Broadgate House, Westlode Street, Spalding PE11 2AF. Anyone interested in finding out more, getting involved or helping to shape the project is invited to go along.
