Spalding Golf Club ace Adam secures second at PGA event

Spalding Golf Club’s Adam Keogh was in magnificent form at the English PGA Championship held at Bowood last week.

The club professional claimed second place in the tournament at the Wiltshire course, having shot a magnificent seven-under-par final round that included seven birdies.

He finished two shots behind overall winner Paul Hedriksen (-9) after four rounds, taking a total number of 209 strokes to complete the tournament.

Using his Twitter account @keogh1, Keogh said: “Great week at Bowood for the PGA Championship. Bowood is a five-star resort and hopefully I am able to get back for next year’s event.”

  • Philip Wakefield won the Free Press One competition at the Surfleet course with a round of 66.

He edged Stuart Armstrong (67) into second place, with Steve Phillips (69) securing third position.

The top six was completed by Trevor Chinery (70), Nicholas Phillips (71) and Luke Chilvers (71).

  • Spalding were well represented with ten ex-seniors captains present at the Lincolnshire seniors past and present captain’s competition.

Some 150 competitors contested the event at Belton Park Golf Club, with numerous awards dished out.

Ray Harrison claimed the prize for first individual, while also being part of the Spalding team that sealed second in the team competition. He was joined by Tony Holbrook, John Patton and Colin Inkley.

Harrison rounded off a great day by winning the nearest to the pin competition, too.

  • Some 130 golfers contested the annual Captain’s Day event at Spalding amid wet conditions at the Surfleet course.

Charles Wallis took first place on 41 points, with Calum Lewis (40pts) and Louie Gooderson (39pts) completing the top three.

Simon Horton (39pts), Oliver Terrington (38pts) and Stewart Barnett (37pts) were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Seniors’ section: Spalding enjoyed a fine 6.5-1.5 win over Belton Park at the Surfleet course.

The teams of Dave Tasker and Shaun Gibson and Jim Dobson with John Cretney both won their matches easily, but Jim Robertson and Keith Holland produced the stand-out showing.

From five holes down they clawed their way back into the match and won it on the last hole.

  • Some 98 players entered Spalding’s Senior Medal competition last Tuesday.

Richard Edwards was the overall victor with a score 70 at Surfleet, while Peter Clare (71) and Malcolm Hole (73) made up the top three.

Steve Childs (74), Chris Smith (75) and Stuart McDougall (75) completed the top six.
