Spalding Auction hits the TV screens

The team at Spalding Auction feature in two episodes of a new BBC series which starts this week.

The country’s oldest market of its type is centre stage today (Thursday) on the Coast and Country Auctions series on BBC 1.

The episode features grower Carl Hinkley, along with buyers John Cullen and Hugh Folds.

Vegetable seller David Dickinson, who has been attending the auctions for around 40 years, is also in the episode which is due to appear at 3.45pm.

The series looks at the stories behind the country’s traditional markets which are at the heart of rural and coastal communities.

The cameras return to Spalding for the final episode which is scheduled to appear on Friday, March 16.

Auction also sells a range of seasonal produce and horticultural products all year.

Buyer James Dawson travels 70 miles to attend the auction to stock his market stall at Scunthorpe.

The series is being screened daily and runs for 10 days.
