South Holland District Council delivering on its corporate plan goals

The garden waste collection scheme, events at Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens and empty homes brought back into use are among achievements listed in a new South Holland report.

An update on progress on goals set out in South Holland District Council’s corporate plan, was reported to a full council meeting (February 22).

The report said:

  • savings and income totalling £356,500 had been delivered by a transformation plan designed to increase online services, partnership working and streamline operations;
  • since April, 249 empty homes have been brought back into use in the district;
  • the two-year garden waste collection pilot scheme launched in April has more than 2,850 properties subscribed and that is expected to rise further;
  • more than 100 council tenants living in fuel poverty had new technology installed in their homes to assist in the control of their heating thanks to £56,000 of charitable funding being secured. That included thermostats and control panels to help residents only heat rooms in use and avoid overheating;
  • the 1940s weekend at Ayscoughfee, aimed at building community spirit and increasing footfall to the hall and gardens, attracted more than 7,000 visitors to the hall and gardens. A similar event is planned for August 12 and 13 this year;
  • moves to develop a housing company that builds, sells and rents properties have moved forward with ongoing deals to buy 15 houses to let and plans to build ten new homes in Park Road.

The report said: “As part of the refresh, it is important to track our achievements to date to ensure that the council is on target to achieve its strategic ambition by 2019.”
