SLBL cricket round-up: Moulton Harrox 2nd hammer Billingborough to hit the summit

Moulton Harrox 2nd moved to the top of the South Lincs and Border League Division One table with a dominant ten-wicket victory over Billingborough 2nd on Saturday.

Hosts Harrox lost the toss at Broad Lane, but saw their opponents crumble to 50 all out in 25.1 overs after opting to bat first.

Moulton needed only 9.4 overs to knock off the required runs, with Danny Jackson’s unbeaten 39 steering them to 51-0 and 20 match points.

That sees them leapfrog Newborough 2nd in the table and go seven points clear of them at the summit, albeit having played a game more.

Lee Eyett (4-11) was Moulton’s star turn with the ball – and it was he who claimed two of Boro’s top three, including skipper Chris King for an innings-high 21.

But it was Simon Juckes (1-17) who got the ball rolling with the scalp of dangerman Stuart Gollop for just six.

King was the only visiting player to make double figures, with four players out for ducks.

Harry Lovell (2-9), Anish Suwarneraj (1-2) and Jackson (1-0) were the other Moulton wicket-takers as they compehensively skittled out their rivals.

Chasing a low target can sometimes be tricky, but the Harrox lads made very light work of their task and blasted to maximum points.

Jackson’s unbeaten 39 took the plaudits, but Suwarneraj (6 not out) kept him company as they eased home.

Also in Division One, Spalding Town 2nd remain bottom after their eighth defeat from as many games.

They won the toss and put opponents Boston 2nd into bat at Seas End Hall, allowing them to notch up 188-5 batting first.

That proved too tall an order for Town’s second string, who were all out for 49 in 20.4 overs in reply as Ian Morris took remarkable figures of 7-13.

Boston’s tally was powered by three solid knocks from William Tetther (59), John Morris (44) and Damian Lawson (42 not out).

Thomas Decamps (2-53) and Robert Seymour (1-27) both bagged wickets for Town, as they limited Boston to below 200.

Spalding’s reply didn’t really threaten to push Boston close, with William Gardner’s 17 the best score on offer.

With Morris taking seven, it was Wills Barker (3-7) who got the three other Town scalps as he polished off the tail.

Up in the Premier Division, Moulton Harrox suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Bourne 2nd.
Moulton made 206-5 batting first, with Bourne making 210-3.
