GOOD KNOCK: But Chris Dring's 50 wasn't enough for Spalding Town.

Moulton Harrox soundly beaten by high-flying Welby, Town 2nd slump despite 50s

Moulton Harrox struggled to make an impact with bat or ball on Saturday as Welby handed them an eight-wicket defeat in South Lincs and Border League Division One.

Louis Greetham top scored with just 20 as hosts Moulton were bowled out for 107 after electing to bat first at Harrox Field.

They came up against an in-form Dom Ashmore, who ripped through the middle order with fine figures of 6-31.

Jamie Hayes, who got both Harrox openers, then returned to take the last wicket to finish with 3-38.

Defending 107 was always going to be tough for Joe Broomfield’s side, but they also came up against Tom Wilkin in fine form. His unbeaten 50 steered Welby to 111-2 in 32 overs and moved the away side up to third in the early standings.

  • Half-centuries from Chris Dring and Simon Juckes failed to stop Spalding Town 2nd losing a Premier Division thriller with hosts Grantham by five runs on Saturday.

Batting first, Grantham posted 199-4 from their 45 overs thanks to 75 from opener Martin Parmley and 43 by number three James Cameron-Clarke.

Julian Wilson (3-52) was the pick of the Town bowlers, taking three of the four wickets.

Opener Dring (53) and number four Juckes (59) batted superbly in the Spalding reply, but they closed on 194-6 to finish agonisingly short of their target.

Phil Abbott (4-44) was a thorn in Town’s reply as they slipped to a second defeat this season.

  • Spalding Town Sunday edged out Moulton Harrox Sunday by three wickets in their Rutland League Division Four East derby at the weekend.

Jon Manton (3-4) starred as Harrox were bowled out for 104 at Spalding Grammar School, with Rob Sexton (32) and Joe Broomfield (30) top scoring.

Josh Lawrence (29) and Manton (26 not out) then steered Town to 105-7 to clinch a three-wicket win despite Karl Hibbert’s 3-13.
