Serial offender from Gedney Hill is caught after police chase

A 38-year-old man with a number of previous convictions, many of them for driving while disqualified and without insurance, has appeared in court after being arrested again for driving while disqualified, just days before his most recent ban was due to end.

Daniel Horgan, of Station Road, Gedney Hill, admitted failing to stop for the police, driving while disqualified and possession of crack cocaine when he appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court.

It was said that he was seen driving a Ford Focus at 3.50pm on June 4 in Alexandra Road, Spalding, and although he stopped for the police, he took off at speed when the officer went to speak to him.

The police pursued him as he drove away until he abandoned the car and ran off, but was caught and arrested after a chase.

Magistrates heard that he admitted possession of crack cocaine as he was being searched and admitted to being disqualified from driving.

The court heard he had 25 previous convictions for 51 offences.

Mitigating, Beris Brickles said Horgan’s last convictions were in 2018 and he had no further convictions until this one and he had been only four days short of the end of his disqualification period.

Mr Brickles said there had been no suggestion he had been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but he did have a problem with drugs and was working with the charity help group We Are With You.

The magistrates adjourned the case for sentence and ordered a pre-sentence report from the probation service.
