Seb feels hungry Holbeach United are getting back to their best

HOLBEACH UTD 6
OADBY TOWN 0

Happy boss Seb Hayes feels that Holbeach United have “clicked” again as their fine form continued with a stellar 6-0 victory over Oadby Town on Saturday.

The Tigers ruthlessly put their ChromaSport UCL Premier Division rivals to the sword at Carter’s Park thanks to goals from Luke Avis (2), Charley Sanders (2), Lewis Leckie and George Zuerner.

Hayes felt his side could have reached double figures, such was their dominance in a fixture against an Oadby side that that had taken four points from their last two game at Deeping Rangers and Leicester Nirvana.

But he was impressed by what he saw, feeling the trademark Tigers team spirit is now back with abundance.

“It was much more comfortable than I thought It’d be,” admitted Hayes. “I know Oadby have pushed a few teams – including Deeping Rangers – all the way lately.

“But, if I’m honest, we really could have scored ten. We got six, but missed some real sitters.

“This was the Holbeach United of earlier in the season. We’ve been brilliant in four of the last five games now. Only the Desborough game let us down.

“I think we’ve just clicked again, everyone has improved and we’re playing as a team.

“That’s key for this group of players. I think that, when people look at Holbeach, they don’t see a stand-out individual performer.

“You look at us and we’re a proper team. Our best performances have come when we’ve all been on our game together.

“But, if three or four of the lads are off form, it makes a massive difference.

“Saturday was a good, solid and professional performance. Everyone did what they needed to do and it showed.”

Holbeach ripped their visitors to shreds in the first period, with Avis giving them an early lead with a rare header.

It was soon 2-0 when Zuerner got in on the act, before a double from Charley Sanders gave the Tigers a 4-0 half-time advantage.

Striker Sanders, who is being built up to full fitness, was replaced by Leckie at half-time – and Holbeach’s leading marksman soon notched his 28th of the season to make it five.

There was still time for Avis to get his second to add the finishing touches to a top afternoon.

The victory was Holbeach’s 12th from 16 home games in the league this season ahead of Wednesday night’s home date with Northampton Sileby Rangers (7.45pm).

It keeps them on-track for the top five finish that Hayes has targeted from day one.

Tigers: Drury, Harker, Braithwaite, Cartwright, N Jackson, Avis (Smith 75), A Jackson, Zuerner (Curtis 70), Griffiths, Bird, Sanders (Leckie 46). Not used: Tinkler, Barker.
