Saturday football: Tulips secure elusive away victory, Tigers shine in FA Vase and Pinchbeck ease past Eynesbury

Leon Mettam’s late goal fired Spalding United to their first away win of the season on Saturday, while Holbeach United marched on in the Buildbase FA Vase and Pinchbeck United eased to victory over eight-man Eynesbury Rovers.

Starting with the Tulips, they moved up to 16th place in the Evo-Stik NPL East Division with a fine 1-0 victory at high-flying Gresley.

The Moatmen had two players sent off on the day, with Mettam striking the only goal ten minutes from time to make it seven points from the last nine available for Matt Easton’s side.

Meanwhile, goals from strikers Joe Braithwaite and Jack Smith earned Holbeach United a 2-0 FA Vase success at Wodson Park.

That sends the Tigers into the third round of the national competition, where they will be hoping for a home draw.

In the Future Lions UCL Premier Division, Eynesbury Rovers had three players sent off against Pinchbeck at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Two of those came inside the opening 15 minutes, making for an odd afternoon for the Knights. They kept their head in the game, though, with goals from Olli Maltby, Lee Beeson and Tony Edwards securing a 3-0 victory and keeping them second in the table.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox saw off Sutton Bridge United 4-1 after extra time in the Lincs Junior Cup.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Holbeach United Reserves enjoyed a fine 2-1 victory over Peterborough Sports Development, while Long Sutton Athletic were 2-0 winners at Peterborough Polonia.
