Saturday football: Tigers held despite Oliver double, Tulips edged out at home and Knights fall into bottom two

Holbeach United lost a 2-0 lead as they were forced to settle for a draw at Quorn on Saturday, while Spalding United were edged out 1-0 at home by Stocksbridge Park Steels and Pinchbeck United went down 3-1 at Rothwell Corinthians.

Starting with Holbeach, a double from the recalled Ryan Oliver put them 2-0 up at half-time in their Uhlsport UCL Premier Division tussle with fellow high-fliers Quorn.

But two second-half goals pegged Danny Hussey’s Tigers back and they were forced to settle for a share of the spoils in Leicestershire.

Staying in the UCL’s top flight, Pinchbeck slipped into the bottom two after their seventh defeat from ten league games so far this season.

Ollie Maltby did put the Knights ahead midway through the opening period, but hosts Rothwell hit back to lead 2-1 at the break and added a third with 15 minutes to go.

It doesn’t get any easier for Pinchebeck, who visit red-hot Deeping Rangers on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, a solitary strike from Luke Mangham sunk Spalding in their BetVictor NPL South Esat Division clash with Stocksbridge.

The Tulips had the better of the first half at the Sir Halley, but were ultimately beaten by a clinical Mangham finish on 67 minutes.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Long Sutton Athletic romped to a 3-0 win at Leverington Sports, while Holbeach United Reserves beat Tydd 4-1 at Carter’s Park.

Crowland Town continued their title charge in Division One, beating Kings Cliffe 7-5 in a remarkable game at Snowden Field.
