Saturday football: Huge derby win for Pinchbeck, Tulips soundly beaten at home, Holbeach edge towards the drop after latest loss

Pinchbeck United pulled off a superb derby victory on Saturday as they won 2-0 at rivals Boston Town, while Spalding United slipped up 3-0 at home to Carlton Town and Holbeach United lost 3-0 against visitors Heanor Town.

Starting in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North, Pinchbeck grabbed their first win since mid-November as they stunned high-flying hosts Boston Town at the Mortgages For You Stadium.

Second-half goals from Avi Vieira and Nathan Stevens gave Lewis Thorogood’s Knights only their fourth victory of the season in what is perhaps their most memorable triumph so far this campaign.

It was vital Pinchbeck picked up the three points, with relegation rivals Selston seeing off Newark 2-1 to drag them into what now looks like a three-way battle for the second relegation spot.

The Knights remain 17th in the 18-team division, but are just two points behind both Selston and Newark, having played more games than both.

Behind those three, Holbeach are looking very much adrift at the foot after they lost 3-0 to Heanor Town at Carter’s Park.

Jordan Haywood, Jack Dando and Jamie Sleigh got the goals for the visitors, leaving Danny Clifton’s Tigers 15 points from safety with 11 games left.

Given they’ve yet to win a single match in 23 league outings this season, surviving the drop looks a tall order now for Holbeach.

Up in the Pitching In NPL Midlands Division, Spalding’s three-game winning run came to an end against play-off chasing Carlton at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Goals from Nat Watson (17), Niall Davie (27) and Tom Maddison (pen 82) sealed the 3-0 success for the away side, who are just outside the play-offs in sixth.

Brett Whaley’s Spalding, who gave a debut to new signing Tiago Nassunculo from the bench, stay 11th.

Down in the ChromaSport PDFL, there was a shock League Cup defeat for Moulton Harrox as they lost 3-1 at Premier Division strugglers Leverington Sports.

After nine wins and as many clean-sheets on the spin, their incredible run of form is over.

Also out are Crowland Town after a 3-2 home reverse against Deeping Rangers Reserves, but Holbeach United Reserves progressed with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Lions.

Tydd are out too after a 3-1 loss at Ramsey Town, while Crowland Town Reserves had a day to forget as they were thumped 20-0 at Warboys Town.
