Saturday football: Holbeach Frew to UCL cup final, Pinchbeck hit rock-bottom and Spalding lose at home

Holbeach United booked their place in the final of the KitmanUK Knockout Cup with a fine 1-0 win over Loughborough University on Saturday, while Pinchbeck United sunk to the bottom of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division after losing 2-1 at Sleaford Town and Spalding United were seen off 3-1 by BetVictor NPL South East Division high-fliers Belper Town.

Starting with Holbeach, Michael Frew’s second half winner settled a close semi-final at Carter’s Park and ensured it will be back-to-back appearances in the UCL’s Knockout Cup final for Danny Hussey’s side.

They will take on Rothwell Corinthians in the final after they upset Deeping Rangers 3-1 in the other last four showdown.

Pinchbeck, meanwhile, lost their crunch basement battle at Sleaford to plunge themselves deep into the relegation mire.

Max Gee’s early penalty gave the Knights a half-time lead, but an own goal and Liam Tunstall’s strike gave the Greens the points – and saw them leapfrog Pinchbeck in the table.

That leaves Ian Dunn’s side in the UCL Premier Division’s solitary relegation position.

Up in the BetVictor NPL, Spalding dropped to 14th place in the South East Division – their lowest position this season – after a 3-1 home defeat against ten-man Belper.

Quick goals from James Carvell (11) and Phil Watt (11) gave them the perfect start at the Sir Halley, although Luca Bucci’s cross was turned in for an own goal by Sam Wright to reduce the arrears on the half-hour.

Jamie Jackson saw a penalty saved early in the second period as Spalding looked for a leveller, before Belper’s Wright was sent off for a foul on Ben Richards with 30 minutes left.

There was to be no comeback, however, with Watt’s second (81) late on settling the clash.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox were 4-1 winners at Polonia in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.

Holbeach Reserves also won 5-0 at Ketton, but Long Sutton lost 4-0 at home to Leverington Sports and Tydd went down 3-2 at Oakham United.
