Saturday football: FA Vase victory for Tigers, Tulips and Pinchbeck both bag a point

Holbeach United marched on in the Buildbase FA Vase with a 3-1 victory at Clifton All Whites on Saturday, while in league action Spalding United drew 2-2 at Chasetown and Pinchbeck United drew 1-1 at home against Rugby Town.

Starting with the Tigers, Josh Ford’s penalty gave them a 1-0 lead in the second qualifying round clash.

The hosts levelled after the break, but late strikes from Spencer Tinkler and Ford again ensured that Danny Hussey’s side are in the hat for the next round.

Meanwhile, Spalding United’s impressive form in BetVictor NPL South East Division continued with a 2-2 draw at Chasetown.

Joel Brownhill put the Tulips ahead, only for Ryan Wynter to level the scores before half-time.

George Zuerner’s 74th-minute strike restored Spalding’s lead, but the hosts hit back when Danny Cocks’ cross was turned into his own net by Taron Hare.

Chasetown were then denied by a remarkable string of saves by Michael Duggan and some resolute defending as they somehow failed to score in the final moments of added time.

The draw makes it for games unbeaten for Matt Easton’s Tulips, who are fifth in the table.

There was also a point for Pinchbeck United, who halted their run of defeats by drawing 1-1 with Rugby Town.

Tyrone Burton, captain of the Knights on the day, slotted them into an early lead in the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division clash at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

Ricky Lovelace pulled off some superb saves to keep Ian Dunn’s side ahead, but he was finally beaten when Sam Lockley netted from close range with ten minutes remaining.

In the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division, Moulton Harrox lost their unbeaten record after a 4-2 defeat at PNS Reserves, while Long Sutton Athletic were 1-0 winners at Stamford Lions.

Holbeach Reserves were the big winners of the day, though, as they smashed Polonia 7-2.

On Friday night, Tydd were unlucky to lose 4-2 at home against much-fancied FC Parson Drove.
