Saturday football: Bastos fires Tulips to huge victory, Tigers win again but Pinchbeck lose at home

A Kevin Bastos hat-trick fired managerless Spalding United to a remarkable 4-1 win at Worksop Town on Saturday, while Holbeach United triumphed 2-1 at Wellingborough Town on Saturday and Pinchbeck United were beaten 2-0 at home by Peterborough Northern Star.

Starting with the Tulips, a treble from Bastos – who was later sent off – and a Joel Brownhill penalty earned them a big win in BetVictor NPL South East Division.

With the future of the entire team up in the air following the resignation of boss Matt Easton and financial problems away from the field, Bastos bagged on 33, 54 and 58 minutes to follow up Brownhill’s 21st-minute penalty.

Steven McDonnell (71) pulled one back for Worksop, who also had a player sent off late on, but Spalding eased home and kept them in ninth place.

Meanwhile, Holbeach kept their impressive winning run going with a great Uhlsport UCL Premier Division victory at Wellingborough.

Second-half goals from Josh Ford and Liam Adams did the job for Danny Hussey’s side, who are now just six points behind leaders Shepshed Dynamo in fifth place.

There was no change in fortune for Pinchbeck, though, as they suffered an eighth defeat on the bounce.

Goals from Liam Rodden and Craig Smith gave Northern Star all three points at the Sir Halley and leave Ian Dunn’s side in the bottom two.
