Popular bus service might escape axe

The future of a popular bus service from Spalding to King’s Lynn may not be under threat.

An online petition was launched to save the 505 which many people rely on for work or college, after operators Stagecoach said the Lynn depot would be closed.

The company will be ceasing to run its services based there, and it was feared that the 505 service into Lincolnshire would be a victim of the axe.
But a spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said it was hoped there would be no ‘significant effect.’

“We’re aware that Stagecoach is looking at services operating from its King’s Lynn depot, and have had an initial conversation with them. As things are still at an early stage, they weren’t able to share specific details, but the impression we were given was that Lincolnshire services wouldn’t be significantly affected. We’ll remain in contact with Stagecoach as things develop,” said the spokesman.

And another bus company looking to take over some of the Stagecoach routes in West Norfolk said the 505 wasn’t on the table as part of the deal.

But Stagecoach itself could not confirm the future of the service.

Andy Campbell, managing director of Stagecoach East, said: “I’m afraid we cannot give out information on specific bus routes at this time, because our talks with the council are ongoing.”

An online petition had been organised by Long Sutton businessman Anthony Bowen, of Three Counties Deli.
