Ping! Julie and Maria bag victory in top Spalding Golf Club event

Julie Gooderson and Maria Williamson emerged as the winners at Spalding Golf Club’s Ping Day for ladies.

The pairs, better ball Stableford competition attracted 18 entries, with Gooderson and Williamson leading the way on 41 points.

Paula Brown and Elaine Hancock were second on 39 points, with Eileen Bridge and Sally West third on 37 points.

The winning pair now go on to play in a regional event.

  • Spalding ladies drew their latest friendly match at their counterparts from King’s Lynn.

The winning pairs were Hannah Thorold and Margaret Barkway and Jean White and Jennifer Pipe. Elizabeth Holbrook and Chris Vickers lost, as did Anita Cross and Elaine Harrison.

  • Eight Spalding ladies travelled to Melton Mowbray for their annual four-way match, where individual Stableford points made up a final team score.

The course was in good condition and the weather stayed dry, so the game was enjoyed by all players.

Belton Woods took the overall win with 234 points, with the remaining clubs being separated by only one point.

Spalding secured second on 224 points, with Greetham Valley third (223 points) and Melton Mowbray fourth with 222 points.

Next years event will be held at Spalding.

Seniors’ section: Result: Woodhall Spa 3.5 Spalding 4.5 (Richard Edwards & Michael Gould halved, Neil Wilkinson & Peter Bridge lost 1 hole, Monty Brittain & Jim Dobson won 3&2, Dennis Farnsworth & Lester Pybus lost 4&3, Rod Hunt & Mike Browning lost 1 hole, John Beba & David Halfteck won 4&3, Paddy Goslyn & Alan Pritchard won 4&2, Roger Davey & Stephen Edward Leggett won 5&3).
