PDFL round-up: Eaton double as brilliant Bridge beat champions and climb up to fifth place

Sutton Bridge United earned their best result of the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division so far on Saturday as they defeated defending champions Peterborough Sports Reserves 2-1.

A double from talisman Matt Eaton was enough for newly-promoted Bridge at Memorial Park, with Dylan Kilford getting the Sports reply.

They then followed that up with Bridge followed that up with a 3-1 success at Leverington Sports on Tuesday night, with Eaton, Jake Lally and Kurt Scott all notching in the first half.

That moves them up to fifth in the table with an impressive four wins from seven games.

Also victorious in the top flight were Holbeach United Reserves, who picked up an impressive 2-1 success over Sawtry thanks to strikes from Steve Barnes and Scott Powley.

In Division One, Tydd St Mary had two players sent off as they crashed 7-2 at home to Peterborough Polonia.

Darren Rawthorn and Jason Bradshaw were given their marching orders for the Saints, who scored twice through Jake Clitheroe.

Fellow Division One side Crowland Town progressed in the Chairman Championship Shield on penalties following a thrilling 4-4 draw at Uppingham Town.

Down in Division Two, Spalding United Reserves were thumped 5-1 at home by Whittlesey Athletic Reserves in a game played at Knight Street.

In Division Three, Luke Baines scored and put in a man-of-the-match performance as Whaplode Drove hammered Leverington Sports 5-1 at Parsons Lane.

However, it was a day to forget for Holbeach Bank as they were thrashed 11-1 at home by Feeder.

Andrew Baker did net for Bank, but a four-goal haul from Matt Wilkin inspired Feeder to glory.

Holbeach Bank have now shipped 21 goals in their first two league fixtures.

Elsewhere, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves suffered their first defeat of the season as Parkside handed them a 4-1 reverse.

Tom Wales netted a treble for the victorious hosts.

Also handed a hefty away defeat were Tydd St Mary Reserves, who went down 5-1 at Orton Rangers ORFC.

Paul Richardson got the consolation strike for the visitors.

Meanwhile, this coming weekend sees the Division Five fixtures get under way.

That includes a first-ever fixture for the newly-formed Spalding United A side, who host AFC Orton at the Castle Sports Complex on Saturday (2pm).

Premier Division leaders Moulton Harrox, who had a free weekend, also return to action on Saturday.

They welcome Sawtry to Broad Lane (2pm).
